The Dwarikesh Agriculture Research Institute, spread over 28 acres of land in Dwarikeshnagar, conducts extensive research work, backed by new farming techniques, to improve the quality and yield of sugarcane. We are also engaged in the development of sugarcane breeding stocks to enable high sugar production, besides sugarcane varieties suitable for moisture-deficit environment and for sub-tropical regions.
We undertake extensive cane development on a massive scale across our facilities, besides providing the farmers with quality cane seeds, along with fertilizers and pesticides, at subsidized rates.
The Kisan Sewa Kendras at our sugar mills provide financial assistance for raising and maintaining nurseries, besides helping to arrange loan for upgradation.
We are also providing free soil testing facility to the farmers of our reserve zone at reputed soil testing laboratories, besides lending them help in digging of bore wells and installation of deep submersible pumps for facilitating irrigation.
We evangelised Co 0238, the 10-month early maturing variety. We conducted lab analyses. We engaged in small planting trials. We showcased superior results.
The cane stick that used to grow no higher than four feet now rose to more than 12 feet. The farm that would generate a yield no higher than 350 quintals per hectare now began to report one that was significantly higher. The cane that would barely deliver 10% recovery now began to deliver 12% and sometimes 14% during the season.
Worked with about 97,000 cane growers; Designed demo-plots of an acre in villages for superior cane cultivation
We regularly conduct seminars and awareness programmes to educate the farmers about the latest techniques to improve cane yield and quality, besides helping them in watershed management through satellite data, which also facilitates land reclamation.
Our teams also engage with farmers to encourage them to go for large-scale autumn planting to facilitate multiple cropping, leading to maximisation of returns.
We also provide them access, through a specially created website, to their calendar, payment status, survey details, and loan position. We also introduced SMS alert and IVR facilities to send automatic messages to the cane growers about their indent/payment.
